Maiti Nepal in co-ordination with Ministry of Women, Children and Social Welfare organized a two-day conference on the ‘Role of Stakeholders in ensuring access to justice for survivors of Human Trafficking’ in Kathmandu on the 10th and 11th of June. The event was one of the activities of the project initiated by Free a Girl and Maiti Nepal.
The two-day program was a huge success with over 50 participants. All three entities of criminal justice system i.e Police, Public Prosecutor and Judicial Agency were present at the event.
Maiti Nepal was graced with the presence of Chief of the office of Attorney General Hari Phuyal as our Chief Guest, some notable judges of Appellate and District Court , IGP Upendra Kanta Aryal as Special guest and Joint Secretary Radhika Aryal.
This program was organized with the motive to ensure justice to the survivors of Human trafficking and to prevent cases from turning hostile. It was also aimed to motivate the Civil Society, government, Judiciary and Law enforcement agencies to work in co-ordination, so that the victims get prompt and proper justice. Focus was laid on formulation of Victim Protection Act and Witness Protection Act along with provision of adequate compensation, restitution and reparation for the survivors. Papers were presented by the police, public prosecutors and judges from the investigative, prosecutorial and justice delivery aspects respectively.
