Maiti Nepal conducted an orientation program in Rupandehi on the 21st of February, where they briefed 34 police personnel on various forms of violence against women and children. The activities of Maiti Nepal in the central & local level and at the border points were discussed at the program. Role of Nepal police in curbing the heinous crime of human trafficking were also put in high priority.
Over 300 girls and women are intercepted every year from the Sunauli border and around 20 are rescued on an annual basis. Our Transit Home located in Bhairawa provides immediate temporary shelter and protection, helps trace and identify parents/ guardians, co-ordinates with police to intercept potential victims. They also provide counseling services, health care and income generating skill trainings and knowledge about human trafficking.
