Maiti Nepal (in association with District Child Welfare Board) organized a cross border workshop at Birgunj today to find out sustainable measures of curbing down the intensity of human trafficking which operates through the porous border of Nepal and India. Government and non government officials from Nepal and India proactively participated in the event. Besides the organizers, the participants from Nepal’s side were Vice-chairperson of District coordination committee, Deputy Mayor of Birgunj Metropolitan city, Assistant Chief District officer, executive officer of Birgunj Metropolitan city, journalists, representatives from Women and Children Service center, Nepal police,armed police, National Investigation Department and office of public prosecutor . Likewise, the participants from Indian government side were representatives from Bihar police and railway police while the non government organizations which participated from India were Prayas, Childline, Asha project, Jan Jagaran.
Participants of the meeting vigorously discussed the gravity of human trafficking, challenges brought about by the porous border, changing dimensions of the problem and probable logical interventions to minimize the crime.
