This initiative focuses on identifying victims, rescuing them from exploitative conditions, and providing them with secure shelter, medical care, and a range of support services. We work in close collaboration with relevant authorities to ensure victims receive legal assistance and justice.

Following rescue operations, survivors are offered counseling and rehabilitation to help them heal from the trauma, stigma, and discrimination they have endured. We prioritize reuniting them with their families whenever possible, supporting their reintegration into society and helping them rebuild their lives with dignity.

Our program goes beyond immediate rescue efforts, aiming to prevent trafficking by raising awareness, advocating for safe migration practices, and promoting economic opportunities to reduce vulnerabilities.

In addition, our contact office in Delhi partners with ATSEC (Action Against Trafficking and Sexual Exploitation of Children) member organizations, local NGOs, police, and the Child Welfare Committee (CWC) to rescue and repatriate Nepali women and girls trafficked to India, ensuring their safe return and access to essential services.

CROSS-BORDER Rescue and Repatriation

Rescuing and bringing survivors home is central to what we do at Maiti Nepal. We rescue girls and women from high-risk areas like Nepal’s adult entertainment industry, Indian brothels, orchestras, and other exploitative settings.

After rescue, we provide immediate care and shelter at transit homes and rehabilitation centers across districts in Ilam, Jhapa, Morang, Kavre, Kathmandu, Rasuwa, Parsa, Rupandehi, Chitwan, Banke, Bardiya, Kanchanpur, Birgunj, Kailali (Dhangadhi), Kailali (Tikapur), and Sunsari.. We offer long-term care in our Rehabilitation Homes in Kathmandu and Sunsari for those needing extended support.

Our survivors receive medical care, counseling, life skills training, and legal support to help them rebuild their lives. We also focus on empowering them through vocational training, ensuring they can achieve economic independence.

To recover those trafficked to India, we work closely with Indian rescue teams, conducting investigations and raid operations. Since 2021, our office in Delhi has been a critical hub for coordinating rescues, offering temporary shelter, and speeding up repatriation efforts. This strategic presence has significantly strengthened our ability to save lives and bring Nepali girls and women back home.

Major Achievements

During the cross-border rescue initiative in 2024, a total of 94 successful cross-border rescue operations took place. Human trafficking across borders presents complex challenges, but we remain committed to bringing survivors home safely.

Through a combination of prevention, rescue missions, and rehabilitation support, we work closely with government agencies, diplomats, and international partners to ensure survivors return with dignity. These women had been lured with false job opportunities but were instead forced into exploitation.

With the Nepal government’s support, we successfully freed:

7 survivors through Maiti Nepal’s Head Office

2 from Kuwait

2 from Dubai

1 from Oman

1 from Malaysia

1 from Jordan

1 survivor from Kuwait through our Makawanpur unit

Many of these women were deceived by human resource companies and coerced into the sex trade. After their rescue, we provided them shelter, care, and support, ensuring their safe reintegration into their families and communities.

REINTEGRATION

Within the complex landscape of human trafficking, Maiti Nepal confronts the grave issue of
internal trafficking head-on through its dedicated Internal Rescue Initiative. Focused on combating
the exploitation of children and women within Nepal’s entertainment establishments, including
massage parlors, dance bars, cabin restaurants, brick factories, carpet factories, garment factories,
clubs, private apartments, and other venues, this initiative is a crucial component of Maiti Nepal’s
holistic approach to eliminating human trafficking in all its forms.
The insidious practice of internal trafficking within Nepal presents a formidable challenge, as
victims are often ensnared in exploitative situations within the borders of their own country. Maiti
Nepal’s Internal Rescue Initiative is designed to address this specific menace by actively engaging
in prevention, rescue operations, and comprehensive rehabilitation efforts. The organization works
collaboratively with law enforcement agencies, government bodies, and local communities to
dismantle trafficking networks and provide a lifeline to those trapped in exploitative situations.

Bardiya: 305

Chitwan: 4

Dhanusha: 38

Illam: 302

Jhapa: 135

Kailali (Dhangadhi): 129

Kanchanpur: 95

Kavre: 595

Makawanpur: 20

Morang: 159

Nagdhunga: 111

Parsa: 192

Rupandehi: 1

Sarlahi: 89

Tikapur: 35

Maiti Nepal Head Office: 77

Before reintegrating with their families, all the rescued girls and women received counseling
services.
