On 1st April 2022, Maiti Nepal organized the sports event with the theme “Turning struggles into strength: The journey from deprivation to opportunities” at Sano Gaucharan, Maligaun. The chief guest for the sports event was the former Inspector General Police (IGP) Achyut Krishna Kharel. He was also the National football captain of the Nepal Police Football Team in the late 1970s. The event was chaired by the Founder, Chairperson of Maiti Nepal Ms. Anuradha Koirala.
The sports activities included a friendly football match between the marginalized women and girls as well as the survivors residing at the Women Rehabilitation Center (WRC) of Maiti Nepal. The other sports activities were tug of war, marble on the spoon, sack race, and taekwondo. The sports event was organized to help them realize their potential and for the empowerment for their sustainable future. There were other various guests, celebrities, and other dignitaries who were there supporting the event. Also, all the participants were given the Prize, Certificate, and Medal for appreciation.
Achyut Krishna Kharel, the Chief Guest addressed the program where he feels honored to be the chief guest of this event. He said; losing and winning is part of life and both mean the same.
Mr. Bishow Ram Khadka, the executive director of Maiti Nepal, expressed his remarkable note during the event. He said the purpose of this event was to help the marginalized girls and women to build their confidence and to empower them.
The concluding remarks were presented by the Founder/ Chairperson of Maiti Nepal Anuradha Koirala where she appealed to all the governmental, non-governmental, private sectors, and the general public for their relentless support and commitment to this fight against human trafficking. She also requested the government agencies to provide recognition and guarantee the rights of marginalized girls and women.
