Rescue and repatriation are among the critical activities of Maiti Nepal that the organization is well known for. For close to three decades, the organization has continuously tried to rescue women and children from places where they were being inhumanly abused and oppressed. Everybody deserves to live a dignified life free from fear and oppression, but sadly the reality of our society falls on the opposite spectrum, making resume efforts extremely important. Without rescuing women and children facing these circumstances, it is impossible to imagine a just world.
Focusing on rescue and repatriation efforts is Maiti Nepal’s step towards building a better and safer world for all. The organization rescues girls, women, and children from sexual servitude, migration traps, and other forms of exploitation. The area of rescue operation includes the entertainment sector in Nepal, Indian brothels, and other places where women and girls are forced into such activities.
After the rescue, girls and women receive comprehensive shelters in transit homes located at different border cities – Pashupatinagar, Kakarvitta, Morang, Dhanusa, Sarlahi, Parsa, Dhunche, Chitwan, Rupendehi, Maheshpur, Nepalgunj, Gularia, Kanchanpur, Tikapur and Dhangadhi. Depending upon the cases, rescued girls and women are referred to the Rehabilitation Homes based in Kathmandu and Sunsari districts.
Transit homes provide a safe living environment, necessary medical treatments, counseling based on problems, life skills training, and other interventions. Apart from the mentioned services, helping the rescued with legal support to penalize the offender/trafficker is an essential service provided by the transit homes/Maiti Nepal. Rescued women and children also receive vocational training for economic empowerment.
