Krisha Rai (name changed), a 14-year-old girl from Nuwakot, Nepal, studied in grade 9 at Mahindra Secondary School. She is an older sister of a younger brother. Her father is retired army currently working in solar security and farming at home with her mother.
One day, at the end of October 2022, she left home without going to her school. She did not return for being scared that her father would hit her. She took along a buffalo and Rs. 1500. She left the buffalo on the way and decided to go to Kathmandu to her grandmother’s residence. She got on a bus and talked to an unknown middle-aged person who asked her about her family details. They got off at the Kakarvitta bus stop to have food. The person gave her Momo. She started to feel dizzy after a while.
The unknown person handed Krisha to a lady named Asmita (name changed) in exchange for some money. Asmita told Krisha that now she will work in a clothes business in India. Asmita changed Krisha’s name to Fulmaya Pun (name changed) to create a new birth certificate for the border pass.
Krisha was brought to the Silchar Brothel area to work as a sex worker. Asmita hit her while refusing to work. Additionally, she was forcefully given alcohol and tablets for intoxication. Three to four people came to her for sexual exploitation per day, and Asmita handled all the money.
After 7-8 days, a person called Bhumi (name changed) questioned and hit Asmita for keeping a minor girl with her. Asmita immediately shifted Krisha to her friend Prasa’s (name changed) house in Tarapur. After three months, Prasa got tipped off by the information of the arrival of the Police. Krisha was left on the way while being shifted to Prasa’s friend’s residence at Meherpur. On 1st February 2023, the Police and Ujjawala staff rescued Krisha and brought her to Maiti Nepal’s shelter home.
