Maiti Nepal is implementing the project “Transforming Social Norms and Advancing Gender Equality in Madhesh Province“ with the goal of challenging harmful practices such as child marriage, dowry, and gender-based violence in Dhanusha and Bara districts. The project duration is from March 2025 to December 2027. It focuses on empowering communities through awareness campaigns, youth mobilization, and the promotion of positive masculinity by engaging men and boys.

The project also aims to strengthen women’s leadership, reduce the unpaid care burden, and enhance institutional capacity. Key activities include art-based community dialogues, policy advocacy, capacity-building training, and staff well-being initiatives. By addressing the root causes of gender inequality, the project seeks to create safer, more inclusive communities and foster long-term social change in Madhesh Province.
Project Objectives:
Primary Objective: To advance gender equality by transforming harmful social norms and empowering marginalized communities in Dhanusha and Bara districts.
Specific Objectives:
- Promote positive masculinity by engaging men and boys as allies in gender equality.
- Advocate for the elimination of harmful practices like dowry and child marriage.
- Address the care burden by promoting shared responsibilities within households.
- Strengthen women’s leadership and political participation.
- Enhance organizational capacities and foster self and collective care among stakeholders.
