MAITI NEPAL

Legal Aid and Prosecution

Maiti Nepal has established a special legal aid division to safeguard the rights of women and children,
addressing various forms of violence, abuse, and discrimination. This division plays a crucial role in
advocating for and providing free legal assistance and counseling in cases involving missing persons,
survivors of human trafficking, victims of domestic violence, sexual assault, psychological abuse, and
harassment both within the country and for those seeking employment abroad. The legal aid section
handles approximately 6 to 8 cases of domestic violence and 3 to 4 cases of missing women and children
daily.

Activities

  • Legal counseling is provided to survivors of human trafficking who seek support and legal assistance.
  • Participants in Maiti Nepal’s awareness campaigns are also welcome to seek legal advice.
  • Rape victims are offered assistance in terms of support and legal advice.
  • Families of missing individuals, whether referred or directly visiting the Central Office or a Branch Office, are eligible for legal counseling.
  • Survivors of domestic violence, including those facing abuse from family members, spousal violence, verbal and physical mistreatment, polygamy, sexual assault by the spouse, rape, substance abuse, and deprivation of basic necessities, can access support and legal aid.
