Day 5 Update: #16DaysOfActivism Against Gender-Based Violence in Sankhuwasabha
Day 5 of the mass awareness campaign unfolded with impactful events as the Maiti team and Shree Saraswoti Secondary School led an awareness rally from Chainpur to Tudikhel, engaging the community with educational materials and creative expressions. Active participation marked the rally, with the Maiti team, Shree Saraswoti Secondary School students, and the community joining forces. Information, Education, and Visibility (IEV) materials were distributed along the route.
Deputy Mayor Ms. Alina Shrestha expressed gratitude and emphasized the community’s role in eradicating gender-based violence. District Superintendent Police Mr. Babu Ram Karki highlighted law enforcement’s role, while Mr. Sandip Poudel from the Armed Police Force shared security forces’ efforts. Mr. Yogendra Sharma, President of the Nepal Red Cross Society in Chainpur, stressed community involvement. Poet Bhim Bahadur Kadel and performer Sabin Shiwa added a creative dimension to the campaign, addressing domestic violence through poetry and drama.
Ward Chairperson Mr. Niranjan Shrestha shared insights on gender-based violence, emphasizing human rights and safe migration. Women’s Rights Activist and Professor Ms. Chitralekha Adhikari discussed the need for awareness, and Ms. Radha Devi Basnet from Shreejansil Samudayik Development Centre contributed valuable insights.
Dance, song, and drama took center stage as the Maiti team delivered impactful performances, raising awareness. The mass awareness campaign showcased diverse perspectives, creative expressions, and community engagement in the fight against gender-based violence. Local leaders, activists, and performers added depth to the ongoing initiative, fostering understanding and addressing challenges. The dedication of all involved contributes to building a safer and more informed society.
