Representatives from Maiti Nepal participated in the International Summit on Combating Human Trafficking: Source to Destination held in Darjeeling on April 25 and 26, 2026.
The summit brought together stakeholders from Nepal and India to strengthen cross-border collaboration against human trafficking. Discussions focused on improving coordination, rapid rescue and referral mechanisms, and protection for women and children at risk in border communities.
Maiti Nepal shared its experiences from border surveillance and cross-border coordination efforts, including the work of the Inter-Border Core Committee. Maiti Nepal currently operates 11 transit homes along border areas to help intercept and prevent cross-border trafficking and provide immediate support to vulnerable women and children. In 2025 alone, Maiti Nepal intercepted 1,703 individuals from border points in Koshi Province and 5,138 individuals across Nepal through its prevention and surveillance efforts. Maiti Nepal regularly coordinates with local organizations and government stakeholders in both Nepal and India through workshops, joint discussions, and collaborative initiatives aimed at strengthening cross-border response mechanisms. Most recently, on December 18-19, 2025, Maiti Nepal organized a cross-border workshop in coordination with the Ministry of Women, Children and Senior Citizens, bringing together stakeholders and government representatives from Nepal, Bihar, and West Bengal to enhance cooperation against trafficking.
