#day2 of the Inter-Municipal Coordination Meeting, on 16th December 2023, kicked off bright and early, bringing together dynamic leaders from 15 municipalities across Karve, Ramechhap, and Sindhuli districts. The session commenced with a presentation by Mr. Krishna Jiwi Ghimire, Former Secretary of the Nepal Government, shedding light on the current situation of human trafficking at the local level. The discussion delved into existing legal provisions, challenges, and the pivotal role of local authorities in addressing this critical issue.
During the engaging presentation, key insights emerged, sparking thoughtful discussions among participants. Representatives from Ramechhap, Kavre, and Sindhuli Districts shared commendable efforts in combating human trafficking and gender-based violence. They also highlighted the challenges faced by local governments in effectively resolving such cases.
Ms. Mina Poudel from the Ministry of Women, Children, and Senior Citizens then took the floor to present mitigation mechanisms and coordination strategies against human trafficking. She addressed challenges within the federal structures and emphasized ministerial initiatives, underscoring the crucial need for collaboration among diverse stakeholders to combat human trafficking effectively.
The meeting also featured a powerful address by Ms. Anuradha Koirala, founder of Maiti Nepal, who passionately addressed concerns raised by representatives from the districts. Ms. Koirala stressed the urgency of combating internal trafficking, a growing concern impacting the daughters and sisters of Nepal. She urged all participants to focus on cases and prosecution, emphasizing justice for survivors of this heinous crime.
These discussions in this coordination meeting have certainly emphasized the importance of united efforts and coordinated action in the fight against human trafficking.
