MAITI NEPAL

Inspiring Visit by The New York Times Leaders to Maiti Nepal

On October 16, Maiti Nepal welcomed Stephen Dunbar-Johnson, President of International, and Helena Phua, Executive Vice President for Asia Pacific of The New York Times. Their visit was filled with inspiration and warmth, guided by Maiti Nepal’s founder, Anuradha Koirala. She showcased the various facilities, including the Women’s Rehabilitation Center and Child Protection Center, offering insights into the lives of the survivors.

Coinciding with the last day of Dashain, a festive time for Nepalese, the atmosphere at Maiti Nepal was lively. Guests witnessed women and girls celebrating through dance and games, reflecting the vibrant culture intertwined with the resilience of those they support.

Throughout the tour, Dunbar-Johnson and Phua listened to stories of courage and transformation from young women, learning about the ongoing challenges of human trafficking and Maiti Nepal’s efforts to combat it. The discussions highlighted both the obstacles faced and the successes achieved in restoring dignity and hope to survivors.

This visit underscored Maiti Nepal’s significant impact over the years and reinforced the shared responsibility in addressing human trafficking. It was an inspiring day that celebrated progress, unity, and human connection.
