Raising Awareness to Combat Internal Human Trafficking and Gender-Bases Violence
To address the uprising instances of internal human trafficking, Maiti Nepal has taken steps to combat this issue today, coinciding with the 16-day Activism against Gender-based Violence. We initiated a campaign at Mitra Nagar of the Bus Park area, which has seen a recent surge in such cases. Working in collaboration with the local Ward Office, Police Stations, and the Kathmandu Metropolitan Social Welfare Council, and after obtaining the necessary permissions, the Maiti Nepal team organized a public corner assembly to educate the community about the realities of internal human trafficking. We discussed how young girls are deceived and coerced into the promise of a better life, only to be later subjected to sexual exploitation.
The Maiti Nepal team also distributed informational pamphlets to increase awareness and address this disturbing trend. The young talents from Teresa Academy of Maiti Nepal moved hearts with a compelling and captivating dance, taking a bold stance against domestic violence in a crowded space. Maiti Nepal founder and chairperson Ms. Anuradha Koirala delivered a poignant speech, shedding light on the heartbreaking reality of women and girls falling prey to daily trafficking, unveiling sinister new trends of exploitation in a web of deception. She assured that the steadfast alliance between Nepal Police and Maiti Nepal will forever stand as a beacon of support for those in need.
