Maiti Nepal was born out of a crusade to protect Nepali girls and women from crimes like domestic violence, trafficking for flesh trade, child prostitution, child labour and various forms of exploitation and torture.
Girls, women and children under the care of Maiti Nepal are first given in depth counselling following their interception at border crossings or rescue from the degradation of prostitution and other indentured slavery positions. During these sessions, each person can say what their interest for potential employment are especially for women, for example, tailoring, craft work, and cooking or working in other hospitality related positions. Thorough training is then provided in their chosen areas of interest to a level where they can become fully functioning members of the society and can be financially self-sufficient.
Maiti Nepal has been working towards creating job opportunities for all the survivors of domestic violence, trafficking and exploitation throughout Nepal in order to make them independent and empowered so that they can reintegrate themselves in the society. Our survivors and beneficiaries have been working in the field of hospitality, social welfare, volunteering, drivers of excavators and three wheelers, teachers, beauticians, stitching, tailoring medical, IT and nursing sectors.
