Introduction

The Birgunj transit home started in 1997 and is in Chhapkaiya, ward no. 2, in Birgunj Metropolitan City of Parsa District in Madhesh Pradesh. Parsa includes Bara and Makwanpur districts to the North and Makwanpur and Chitwan districts to the West.
Birgunj is right by the Indian town of Raxual in the South and Makwanpur in the North, part of the Indian state of Bihar. Birgunj is one of the busiest points for people coming in and out of Nepal and India. The free movement of people between the two countries contributes to the high cases of commercial sexual exploitation and Human Trafficking across the Nepal-India Border.

Major Achievements of 2024

MN Transit Home in Birgunj Parsa Intercepted 226 girls/women from different risky spots preventing them from being trafficked Out of which 34 were directly returned home from the border and 192 were internally rescued.

  • 18 Girls/women were rescued from India.
  • 301 women/ girls were directly reintegrated with their families.
  • 23,219 vehicles were checked at the Nepal-India Border to trace if the children/women who were migrating were at risk of trafficking.
  • 24 missing cases were reported to the Transit Home and among them, 13 were found.
  • 9 Domestic violence cases were filed in the transit home out of which 7 cases were mediated and 2 were referred.
  • Shelter support was provided to 264 girls/women. 93 of them were below the age of 18 and 171 of them were above the age of 18.
  • 23,933 people received the information on anti-trafficking, domestic and sexual violence, and safe migration, provided by the team.
  • 264 women and girls received psychosocial counseling in the year 2023.
