Introduction
The Kakarvitta transit home was set up in 1999 and is situated at Purano Bhansar, Suryaudayamarg, Mechi Nagar Municipality, Ward no.10 in Jhapa District. Jhapa is in the Terai Region of Nepal, part of the Mechi Zone in the Eastern Development Region. It shares borders with Ilam district to the North, Morang district to the West, the Indian state of Bihar to the South and East, and the Indian state of West Bengal to the East. Recognizing it as an area at risk for trafficking, a transit home was established in Kakarvitta to reduce the threat of Human Trafficking.

Major Achievements
MN Transit Home in Jhapa
- Intercepted 171 girls/women from different risky spots preventing them from being trafficked where 36 were directly returned home from the border and 135 were internally rescued.
- 5,630 people received the information on anti trafficking, domestic and sexual violence, and safe migration, provided by the team.
- 5 girls/women were rescued from India.
- 9,380 vehicles were inspected at the Nepal-India Border to trace if the children/women who were migrating were at risk of trafficking.
- 139 women/ girls were directly reintegrated with their families.
- 62 missing cases were reported to the Transit Home and among them, 20 were found.
- 140 women and girls received psychosocial counseling in the year 2023.
- 3 Domestic violence cases were filed in the transit home where all 3 cases were mediated and resolved.
- Shelter support was provided to 133 girls/women, where 48 females were below the age of 18 and 85 females were above the age of 18 during the year.
